Dozens of Rochester Police Officers were honored by their department for the work they do in the community Wednesday night.

It was the 32nd annual "Awards Dinner” held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Awards were given to officers for things like saving a person's life, making an outstanding arrest and community work.

Civilian employees and some citizens were also honored Wednesday night.

Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard says this is the department's way of showing its officers it appreciates what they do day in and day out.

“Our officers do not get the support they need sometimes. They do not get the recognition from the community or the acknowledgement. We have to do things that let them know that they're doing great things and we're going to acknowledge those great things,” he said.

Chief Sheppard says the department has 740 officers and 250 civilian employees.
