For many people in Rochester it's a tradition to go to Highland Park for the first Saturday of the Lilac Festival to watch the Lilac Parade.

Despite the cloudy skies and chilly temperatures, Highland Avenue was crowded with parade watchers.

There were big cheers at the start. Members of the Webster Police Department and West Webster Fire Department led the parade and helped usher this year's grand marshals, Joseph Hofstetter and Ted Scardino, the two firefighters who survived the Christmas Eve ambush, waved at the people cheering them on.

There were more than 2,500 participants in the parade as well as 20 marching bands and several floats. Many of the floats had a flower theme.

On Sunday we expect a lot of people to bring their mothers to Highland Park to see the lilacs. Sunday night, the big concert is Eddie Money at 7 p.m.
