Honoring veterans in Rochester was the goal of one event Wednesday night.

It was held at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Corn Hill.

Older veterans who attended were encouraged to sign up for the Honor Flight, which flies older veterans to Washington D.C. So they can take a tour and see the War Memorial in person.

News10NBC spoke with organizers at the event.

“We're hoping that through this gathering there will be certainly a major increase in awareness and recognition of the work, the labor and the sacrifice that these women and men of color have made,” said Pastor John. S. Walker.

Volunteers were also on hand with information about programs and benefits for veterans.
