A local lawmaker is hoping to boost tourism in upstate New York and he's teamed up with a number of local agencies to do just that.

State Senator Ted O'Brien stood beside representatives from local tourism groups on Friday to talk about a push to get people to travel to our area.

O’Brien says new initiatives being put forward by these groups will help to grow revenue here in our area. One of those campaigns involves ads being put into place downstate.

Don Jeffries of VisitRochseter said, “One hundred million people are exposed to the venues of the port authority will see an advertising campaign promoting upstate New York and what we're trying to do is get people from the city and from the island to come upstate to enjoy what we have here instead of going to some of those neighboring states which i won't even mention today."

In total, the amount of money spent by the state to promote New York is about$ 60-million which is triple what was given out as part of last year's budget.
