Officials in Seneca County have officially suspended their search for a Cornell student who went missing last Wednesday.

Investigators say Christopher Dennis, 22, of Ithaca went missing after he left a campsite and put a canoe in Cayuga Lake at around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Sheriff's Deputies say Dennis' friends started looking for him and found a canoe overturned in the lake at around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

In a press release Monday evening Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg said, “While our official search efforts have been suspended, we will maintain a presence on Cayuga Lake for the foreseeable future and track down any and all leads.”

Sheriffs ask residents and Cayuga Lake users to report anything unusual they notice within the coming weeks.
