Federal officials say a Rochester woman has pleaded guilty in a tax fraud case.
Michelle Torres, 37, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Torres was part of a scheme that involved filing tax refund claims with stolen IDs. She would then pick up the refund checks and send them along to co-conspirators in New York City in exchange for a fee.
The fraud resulted in $1.6-million in false refunds being issued by the IRS.
Torres could serve up to 10 years when sentenced.
