A police manhunt continues Monday in Phelps, Ontario County for two suspects involved in a vehicle chase Sunday afternoon in Geneva and Phelps. Two suspects have already been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having loaded firearms.
Ontario County Sheriff Povero tells our news partners, the Messenger Post Newspapers, that the search, involving numerous law enforcement agencies, is concentrating on the northeast portion of Phelps. Povero said they will be talking with state police to see whether they need a helicopter to continue the search.
This all started around 3 p.m. Sunday when 911 calls came in for shots fired at about 3 p.m. Sunday on Clark Street and East North Street in Geneva.
Police said the driver exited the vehicle, displayed and pointed a handgun at the officers and was subsequently shot in the arm by Geneva police.
The suspect, Alexander Rodriguez, 26, of Geneva, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and was released to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office after evaluation.
A second suspect, Jose Gomez-Santiago, 20, of Geneva, was taken into custody shortly after midnight after he emerged from a wooded area near Route 14 and Cross Road in Phelps.
Both suspects are charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and being held in the Ontario County Jail on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
Police believe the remaining two suspects may have left the area. Police say they are looking for 22-year-old Andres Escalera and 25-year-old Jonathan Rivera, both of Geneva. Police say the two are wanted for questions regarding the pursuit and shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
