Experts say the spread of a sexually transmitted virus has been cut in half and it is all thanks to a vaccine developed locally.
According to new members from the Center for Disease Control, the Gardasil vaccine has led to a 56% reduction on the human papillomavirus in teen girls.
The vaccine was developed by researchers at the University of Rochester and hit the market seven years ago. Many men and women are infected with HPV in their life. Most don't develop symptoms and the virus goes away on its own, but some infections can lead to further complications like cervical cancer.
