There's been a shortage of priests in the Catholic Church around the world and there's also been a need for priests in Rochester.

On Saturday three men answered the call.

They were ordained in the Rochester Catholic Diocese by Bishop Robert Cunningham. The ceremony was held at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

The men will join the ranks of about 160 active and retired priests in the Diocese of Rochester.

News10NBC spoke with one of the new priests, Michael Costik, from Livonia.

“We need priests. We have three guys, that's the most we've had in 15 years I think. It's a wonderful thing to see the excitement about how these coming,” said Costik.

Peter Mottola and David Tedesche are the other two men who were ordained Saturday.

Just a few years ago there were only a few candidates preparing for the priesthood.

Now, the Rochester Diocese has more than 20 men in seminaries across the United States and Europe.
