A Rochester Police officer was shot in the arm Thursday afternoon near North Goodman and Norton Streets, while in pursuit of a homicide suspect. The suspect, and a man driving a car through the area were also shot.

According to Rochester Police Chief James Shepard, officers were trying to make a traffic stop around 4:15 Thursday. They were trying to stop 31-year-old Ralph Strong, also known as "Irak The Prince". He is the suspect from a recent double homicide that happened outside of  Club Network on Central Avenue on June 24.

Chief Shepard said at a news conference Thursday night, that Strong started to run away, and that's when he fired at Sergeant Flamur Zenelovic. He was taken to Rochester General Hospital, after being shot several times in the upper arm. He underwent surgery, and is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

After Zenelovic was shot, police say Rochester Police, Lt. Charles Goodman, Officers Matt Balch, and Daniel Rizzo fired back at Strong, hitting him. Strong was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, and is currently in surgery.

Also shot, during the exchange of gunfire, was 47-year-old Gene McDougal, of Henrietta. He was driving by, when he was hit inside of his car. McDougal is currently in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.

Chief Sheppard says the investigation is ongoing, and would also like to thank the Monroe County Sheriff Department, Irondequoit Police Department and the New York State Police, who assisted in the investigation.
