The man who investigators say shot a Rochester Police officer on Thursday has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
An indictment charges 31-year-old Ralph Strong with the deaths of 31-year-old Jahmia Singleton and 27-year-old Reggie Johnson in the early morning hours of June 24. Investigators say a large fight broke out in the parking lot across from Club Network on Central Avenue and both men where shot and killed.
On Thursday afternoon, officers tried to pull Ralph Strong over but he tried to run away and took a shot at Rochester Police Sergeant Flamur Zenelovic, hitting him in both arms. After Zenelovic was shot, police say Lieutenant Charles Goodman and Officers Matt Balch and Daniel Rizzo fired back at Strong, hitting him five times.
Also shot during the exchange of gunfire was 47-year-old Gene McDougal of Henrietta. He was driving by when he was shot three times while inside of his car.
Strong and McDougal are listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Sergeant Zenelovic underwent surgery and is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
