Experts predict smoking bans and other tobacco control policies will prevent an estimated 7.5-million premature deaths worldwide by the year 2050.
Researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, DC focused on 41 countries that had implemented tobacco control measures since 2007. They estimate more than seven-million lives will be saved in the coming decades.
The experts say successful tobacco control measures include smoking bans, quit help lines, bans on tobacco advertising and higher cigarette taxes.
