He was a victim of a medical emergency and on Tuesday he had the chance to thank his rescuers.

This morning, Gerald Byrne of Rochester met with firefighters from the Rochester Fire Department.

Byrne collapsed on July 4, 2012 and those first responders were at his residence within two minutes and able to revive him. Byrne remained in a coma for more than one month.

The 911 operator, Rural/Metro and members of the Lyell Avenue firehouse met with Byrne today for a small ceremony of gratitude.

The ambulance crew and operator said that they rarely get to see the outcome of their work and that this was a happy ending to what could have been a tragedy.
