You may have noticed something different when you stopped at Dunkin Donuts for your morning coffee Tuesday. Rochester Police officers spent some of their morning on the roof of area Dunkin Donuts.
It's all part of the "Cops on Top" fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics. Customers are asked to chip in and donate to Special Olympics. Anybody who donates gets rewarded with a coupon for a free donut or coffee.
Officials from Special Olympics say it's fundraisers like this that make what they do possible.
Renee Snyder, New York Special Olympics, said, "We never charge our athletes or their caregivers for anything that we do, so it is vital for events like this, "Cops on Top" and our law enforcement torch run, to raise dollars to help support those initiatives. We have 22 year round sports and a lot of athletes here who compete not only once but year round."
Special Olympics have 62,000 athlete across the state with many of them in the Rochester area. Volunteers were hoping to raise $5,000 across our area Tuesday.
