The Canandaigua Airport has reopened after closing June 16 for construction on a $7.9-million runway expansion.

Construction to expand the main runway from 3,200 feet to 5,500 feet began in late 2012 and continued — while keeping the facility open — until June. The June closure was so crews from DiFiore Construction of Rochester could continue work on the expansion.

The project will also widen two additional runways by 25 feet.

The final task for the project is to paint and groove the runway to help with drainage.
