Chobani Greek Yogurt has been selected as the yogurt of choice in an USDA pilot program to serve Greek yogurt in school lunches.

The New York based yogurt will be served starting in September in four states including New York.

New York State leads the country in Greek yogurt production. The pilot program will test the cost effectiveness of offering high-protein Greek yogurt in the school lunch program, which feeds 31 million students monthly nationwide.

If the program is successful, Greek yogurt could become a permanent part of school lunches nationwide.

In addition to New York, Tennessee, Idaho, and Arizona are participating in the pilot program.
