RG&E is warning customers about a scam. The gas and electric company says they have received a number of calls from customers who have received bill collection calls from someone identifying himself as “Carl” and claiming to represent RG&E.

The caller tells customers they will have immediate shutoff of service and they need to purchase a “Green Dot MoneyPak Card” and call a phone number starting with 347 with the card information. RG&E says the caller has mostly called owners of small businesses and restaurants in Rochester.

RG&E is reminding customers that they will not call a customer for payment if his or her account is in good standing. If you have any questions about a call you receive regarding your service, you can call RG&E at 1-800-743-2100.
