One person is dead after a train crash in Fairport. It happened around 3 a.m.
News10NBC has learned the person was hit about half of a mile west of Main Street in Fairport. We are told the conductor of the eastbound train saw a person on the tracks but couldn't stop in time.
Fairport Police Chief Maureen Chisholm says it is too early to tell if this was an accident or something else. She wasn't able to say if the victim is a man or woman or their age.
Officials from CSX are examining the train. Here’s what Chief Chisholm said about that process. “They do that because they look through the train to see if there are any malfunctions. There’s also video that we can retrieve from the conductor so we will look at that. They are trying to retrieve that now but it may be a day or two before we can view that.”
Main Street in Fairport has re-opened after being closed for nearly four hours.
