Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone says that rookie quarterback EJ Manuel will likely be back in action by the beginning of the regular season after suffering a knee injury in the team's second preseason game.
Coach Marrone said during a post-practice press conference at St. John Fisher that the rookie quarterback underwent "very minor" procedure in Buffalo Sunday morning. Manuel is currently still in Buffalo following that procedure, but Marrone says Manuel will be back with the team as soon as he can be. He also says that the team is not planning at this time to sign another quarterback to replace Manuel as he recovers. Meaning extra reps will likely be split between veteran Kevin Kolb and rookie Jeff Tuel.
The head coach says Manuel will be day-to-day after the preseason is over.
Manuel's injury comes as the rookie has had a hot start to training camp and the preseason.
