A study of more than one million children finds siblings of children with autism have an increased risk for developing the condition too.
Researchers in Denmark studies over a million children born between 1980 and 2004. They found the risk for autism spectrum disorders is seven times higher among siblings of autism patients, compared to the general population. Their risk of developing the disease was between five and ten percent, compared to just over one percent for the general population.
The risk was also highter for half-siblings among children with the same mother.
