News10NBC has an update on the random vandalism that victimized more than two dozen car owners on the city's southeast side.
Police had arrested 20-year-olds Ryan Stanwix and Matthew Pease-Osewalt, of Rochester. Police say they were driving around randomly smashing windows on cars parked on the streets in the South Wedge and Swillberg neighborhoods.
According to the statements given by the men, it came down to stupidity and stress. Stanwix said, "Let's chalk it up to a bad night. Two stupid kids doing stupid stuff." In his statement, Osewalt said he was dealing with a number of personal issues.
Osewalt's mother says her son is need of help.
Libby Piertrowicz: "I was devastated. Sad for everybody. Upset obviously, but not surprised because Matt has tried to have services for years for mental health and other issues and he's one of the ones that is falling through the cracks. We're trying everything to keep him from falling through the cracks."
Police say the men also threatened a woman who had witnessed some of the vandalism. Both Stanwix and Pease-Osewalt are being held on $5,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
