Two explosions, one near a barber shop and the other in front of a city home, happened in the same area about 30 minutes apart.
The first incident happened on Lyell Avenue just after 9:20p.m.
Police say someone broke out a rear window leading to a vacant room behind the Dream Cuts Barbershop and threw a “fireworks based improvised explosive device” inside. There were people inside the barber shop, but no one was injured. No one has been charged at this time and investigators are looking at surveillance video to find out who did this.
Twenty-five minutes after that explosion, police were called to Cameron Street, less than a mile away, for a second blast.
Police discovered damage to the front porch of the home. After investigating further, police discovered a damaged recycling bin, along with a four inch hole in the floor and ceiling. Police say a suspect placed a improvised device on the porch. The second floor of the house was occupied, but no one was injured.
Investigators are looking into whether the two explosions are connected.
