Greg Reynolds turned in his second complete-game against the Red Wings this season as he pitched the Bats past the Wings, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon at Frontier Field. With the win, the Bats snapped their franchise record 12-game losing streak and avoided being swept by the Wings for the first time ever. For Rochester, the loss was just their second at home in their last 12 games and just their sixth at Frontier Field since June 13.
The Wings 24.0-inning scoreless streak was snapped in the first inning on an unearned run... The Bats manufactured the run as Billy Hamilton lead off with a bunt single, moved to 2nd on an errant pickoff toss by P.J. Walters, moved to 3rd on a ground out to shortstop and scored on a sac fly from Mike Hessman. The streak was their longest since a 28.0-inning streak from April 15-18, 2006... The Wing allowed their first earned runs in 29 innings in the 6th frame when Jason Donald tripled down the right field line to plate a pair of runs to stake the Bats to a 4-1 lead.
The Wings committed three errors on Tuesday afternoon and have now committed 14 errors in the last 10 games which have led to nine unearned runs. The Wings entered the day with the best fielding percentage (.983) in the IL and the least amount of errors in all of MiLB.
LHP Edgar Ibarra turned in two more scoreless innings for the Wings on Tuesday... The southpaw has now thrown 31.1 consecutive innings between NBR & ROC (14.1 IP) without allowing an earned run -- a span of 26 G over which he has allowed just 1 R on 13 H and 8 BB with 27 SO... With Rochester, Ibarra has allowed just 5 H (.111 avg) & 7 BB over 14.1 scoreless IP (12 G). The 14.1 scoreless innings is the 3rd longest streak by a Red Wings pitcher this season and longest by a reliever.
Chris Colabello went 0-for-4 as his 10-game hitting streak and 28-game home on-base streak was snapped on Tuesday. He hit .381 (16-42) with 3 HR and 9 RBI over his hitting streak and .419 (44-105) with 6 HR and 23 RBI over his Frontier Field on-base streak.
The Red Wings bullpen allowed just one run over four innings on Tuesday as the unit lowered their ERA to 3.26 (21 ER/58.0 IP) over their last 17 games. The run Cody Eppley allowed on Tuesday was the first allowed by a Wings reliever in the last 6 games (0.60 ERA; R, 15.0 IP, 11 H, BB, 12 K)
Prior to the game, the Minnesota Twins recalled Michael Tonkin from Rochester for the 2nd time this season. Tonkin appeared in one game for the Twins, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings of relief July 11 at Tampa Bay. OF Aaron Hicks was reinstated off the DL (bruised heel) after Tonkin was recalled. Hicks went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his first game off the DL.
