A former Rochester Postal Service employee was sentenced for destroying and damaging packages intended for delivery.
Dale Richmond, 59, of Williamson, was convicted of mail theft and mail tampering and was sentenced to one year in prison. He also was ordered to pay a $7,500 fine and pay more than $7,800 in restitution to the victims of his crime.
Richmond was a mechanic at the Lyell Avenue Distribution Center. While working there, Richmond went through mail looking for scrap gold, jewelry and coins. He stole the items and then sold them at a local pawn shop for more than $30,000.
