Survey: More families using cash to purchase back-to-school items

Now that it's back to school time, a new study from the National Retail Federation finds that families are using cash, rather than credit cards to make their purchases.
The average family with school-aged children got a jump start on their back to school shopping this summer, already completing more than half of their shopping. That’s up from 40-percent last year and the highest percent in the survey's history.
Parents sending their kids off to college have also gotten off to a head start, completing nearly half of their shopping needs.
But if you've waited until the last minute, shoppers can expect sales and promotions to continue through Labor Day as retailers make way for fall merchandise.
