It wasn't a planned stop, but still hundreds crowded the street trying to catch a glimpse of the President. Some even stood outside and waited for nearly an hour.
News10NBC heared from so many people who never imagined this would happen to them today, having the chance to see and meet the President of the United States of America.
There were families like the Hughes, who heard about the President's visit on the radio and rushed to Park Avenue to see him in person. There were others like Debbie Smith, who was on her lunch break and just like every other work day. She was out for a walk with her co-worker near Park Avenue when she saw swarms of police officers flying by. She knew something big was happening.
Debbie Smith said, "And I said, ' I bet you Obama is here' and so we got closer and we saw the bus and we waited for him to come out and it's so exciting I was awed that we got to see the President of the United States. Not as close as we wanted to be, the Secret Service kept everybody back far, but it was still exciting."
Dick White said, "Debbie was saying all along it must be the President and I didn't believe her but we kept on following the police cars and then we saw the president get out.”
Debbie said she was going to get back to work and tell everybody they should have walked with us today. She says it's a good day for Rochester.
