A rally in Rochester today, demanding that a local congressman follow the rules and pay his taxes.
Labor leaders gathered outside the IRS on East Avenue Friday afternoon. Organizers say they want republican Congressman Tom Reed to promise that he'll pay his taxes on time.
Earlier this week, reed acknowledged he was late paying property taxes 38 times over the last eight years. He said most were on properties owned by his business partnerships and congressional rules prevent him from oversight of those taxes.
Ontario County Democratic Chair John Hurley said, "I'm not suggesting that Mr. Reed needs to be held to a higher standard, simply that standard that he should meet is that which all of his busy, hard-working, middle-class families throughout the district have to meet, which is, when you get a bill, you pay it on time."
Reed says his taxes were eventually paid with penalties. He also said he will work hard to make sure it doesn't happen again.
