Not taking care of your teeth could increase your risk for oral HPV.
Researchers at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center looked at health survey responses from 3,000. They found those who said they had poor oral health, like inflamed gums or sores in the mouth, had a more than 50-percent increased risk for oral HPV infection. The virus increases the risk for warts in the mouth or throat or at worst oral cancer.
Men, smokers, marijuana users and people with multiple partners had the highest risk for oral HPV infection.
