It could be a big breakthrough in the world of medicine and it’s happening in Rochester.
The University of Rochester Medical Center has come up with a new treatment for severe asthma. It's called bronchial thermoplasty.
According to our news partners at the Messenger Post, patients are sedated and a device is put into the lungs. The device gives off controlled levels of heat. Doctors say the treatment soothes the muscles in the airway, making them less likely to close up causing an asthma attack.
Our news partners say this is the first non-drug related asthma treatment.
