A 25-year-old Palmyra man is facing charges after police say he resisted arrest and injured a Gates Police officer on Wednesday.
Police say Adalberto Alers Junior stole $100 worth of merchandise from Walmart in Gates and then took off in a vehicle. The vehicle was later spotted by a Gates Police officer and subsequently stopped on Chili Avenue. When police approached the vehicle, investigators say the passenger took off.
According to police, when officers tried to arrest Alers, he struck one of the officers in the eye, causing a laceration and swelling.
Alers is charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and assault. He was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
