Kids head back to school next week and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office wants to make sure they'll be safe as they are getting on and off school buses.
Deputies are reminding drivers they must stop for all school buses when the red lights are on and students are getting into or out of the bus. They say speed zones around schools will also be enforced.
The office says anyone found guilty of passing a stopped school bus will pay a minimum fine of $250. Those caught speeding in a school zone will pay a $90 minimum.
The sheriff’s office says it will have an increased number of patrols on the road next week making sure drivers are following the law. Some deputies will even follow school buses.
