It was a Labor Day party at Frontier Field. The Red Wings clinched the Wild Card on the final day of the season and now will take on Pawtucket in the Governor's Cup Semi-Finals.
The Red Wings haven't played postseason baseball since 2006. The Wings made it dramatic down the stretch, but made sure the final regular season game was drama free, punching their ticket to the playoffs with the wildcard. The Wings 13-3 win over Scranton Wilkes-Baire, coupled with a Norfolk loss, means it is postseason baseball time at Frontier.
Rochester and North Division Champion Pawtucket will play a best of five series beginning Wednesday night at Frontier Field. The Wings finished 77-67 including a 9-7 record against the sox this season.
A post season appearance looked bleak after a 2-11 start to the year, but the Wings found a way.
Games One and Two will be at Frontier Field. Two-time Major League All-Star Clay Buchholz will start for the Sox on Thursday as he rehabs his shoulder. Game Three is Friday in Pawtucket, then if necessary, Games Four and Five in Pawtucket this weekend.
