An intense manhunt for a murder suspect that impacted hundreds of school children in Irondequoit early Thursday is now over. Police say a Rochester man considered armed and dangerous and who had been on the run for over 24 hours is in custody at this hour.

Rochester Police took 26-year-old Marcus Freeman into custody around 4:00p.m. Thursday. Police say Freeman arrested him at a home on Second Street in the city. They say Freeman was alone at the time of the arrest and he was taken into custody without incident. Police wouldn't say if they believe Freeman was armed or if they believe he had been hiding in that home since Wednesday.

Officers say Freeman shot two people on Pullman Avenue Wednesday morning, one of the victims, 27-year-old Walesy Alvarez died. The other victim, Martin Moore is in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.

At one point Thursday, police thought he was hiding in an apartment complex near Eastridge High School in Irondequoit.

The deputy police chief says the community played a large part in police finding Freeman.
