Mayoral candidates gather support

The Democratic mayoral primary is only days away and both candidates were out Saturday morning drumming up support before Tuesday's election.
Mayor Tom Richards started his busy day at a Democratic rally on East Avenue. Democratic Chair Joe Morelle and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter joined Richards to show support for the Democratic slate of candidates.
After the rally, Richards knocked on doors. He says it's important to get his message across, but he says, there's something even more critical.
“You know all of the hoopla, all the discussion doesn't matter if people don't vote. So not only do we have to convince people to come out and support us, but we also have to convince people to go out and vote. So that's what we are doing here today. Getting people to support us, but to also get out and support us by voting,” said Richards.
It was also an early start for City Council President Lovely Warren, who is running against Richards. News10NBC caught up with Warren as she walked through a neighborhood on Waring Road. Warren's busy schedule also included a health fair at the Public Market, a town hall meeting with County Legislator Willie Joe Lightfoot and a street fair. She ended her day with a meet and greet on Arlington Street.
“I'm really excited. I believe that we can win this race. We have people out on the streets, making phone calls. I appreciate all the volunteers that are helping get out the vote and I'm just really excited to go door to door and do everything we can to get our message out there to the voters of Rochester,” said Warren.
Voters in the city will hit the polls on Tuesday.
