9/11 ceremony will be a quiet "last" for mayor

When this year's September 11 anniversary ceremony unfolds at ground zero, the mayor who has helped orchestrate the observances from their start will be watching for his last time in office. And saying nothing.
 
Like last year, no politicians will speak. That includes Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
 
As mayor and chairman of the National Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum, Bloomberg has overseen every such observance. And he has sometimes tangled with victims' relatives, religious leaders and other elected officials.
 
But his administration has tried to keep the commemoration centered on the attacks' victims and their families and relatively free of political image-making.
 
Memorial organizers expect to take primary responsibility for the ceremony next year. They say they plan to keep it focused on the families.
 
The following are lists and schedules for local and national 9/11 remembrance events:

Webster:
Village of Webster 9/11 Memorial Service will give the opportunity to continue the healing process and pay tribute to the thousands of fire fighters, policemen, EMT's, and airline personnel who were killed or wounded in the line of duty and to private citizens who were also lost on that tragic day.
7p.m. at Webster Veterans Memorial Park

Brighton:
Monroe Community College will commemorate those who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony will be held on outside the PAC Center at 8 a.m. Free parking is available in Lot G.

Brockport:
Brockport Volunteer Firefighters's Association 9/11 Vigil will be held at the Brockport Fire Department Station 4 on South Main Street.
Opening Ceremony, 8:30 a.m.; Tolling of the Bell, 8:47 a.m.; Ring of Gold, 6:15 p.m.; closing ceremony, 7 p.m.

Greece:
Greece Ridge Fire Department firefighters will pay tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001.
8:30 a.m. at More about Greece Ridge Fire Department on Long Pond Road

Canandaigua:
Patriot Day Remembrance and Prayer Service at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center
1 p.m. at Building 5 Auditorium

Spencerport:
Event held in remembrance of 9/11 as well as give tribute to all First Responders and our Hometown Heroes, the young men and women serving in our Armed Forces.
7 p.m. at Clyde Carter Canalside Gazebo on Clyde Carter Canalside Gazebo on Union and Amity Streets
