The Rochester area's economy is getting another boost, thanks to a French company's acquisition of some local manufacturing plants.
Bonduelle recently bought out processing plants in New York and in Wisconsin, bringing the company to the United States for the first time. Those plants, located in Oakfield, Berjen and Brockport, will be used to process frozen vegetables to be distributed worldwide.
Congressman Chris Collins, NY-27, says the expansion is a win for Bonduelle and a win for local agriculture.
Congressman Chris Collins said, "Transportation costs are absolutely a critical component so with you increasing capacity here, that gives our farmers then the confidence that they're going to grow, knowing that their customer is here and it's not being transported hundreds or more miles."
Bonduelle produces frozen vegetables in the United States for private label brands including the frozen veggies sold under Wegmans' generic store brands.
