Rex Ryan considers Bills coordinator Mike Pettine a brother. For eleven years, Pettine worked under Ryan, most recently as the Jets defensive coordinator. Pettine was always overshadowed by Ryan. Now Pettine is making his name with the Bills.
On Sunday, at Metlife Stadium, the two football brothers will show off their defensive genius in mentor versus protege.
The first shots were fired by Ryan--no surprises there--during a teleconference with the media on Wednesday. He said, in reference to the Bills defense, "it looks like someone borrowed our playbook."
Pettine isn't the only Bill with something to prove. Buffalo shocked everyone when the team selected EJ Manuel as the first quarterback in the 2013 draft. Many believed Jets QB Geno Smith QB off the board, instead New York got him in the second round.
Both rookies led game-winning drives in their team's lone wins this season. However, only one will win this weekend.
In other roster news, safety Jairus Byrd was limited at practice on Wednesday as he still deals with plantar fasciitis. Head coach Doug Marrone said he is getting closer to returning.
