It isn't just Apple that would like to see you download its new operating system for mobile devices. Top prosecutors in San Francisco and New York say you should load up your phone with iOS 7 because it has a feature they believe might help people from having their smartphones swiped.
The major of London is joining in the calls made by San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. In a joint statement, they say the iOS 7's activation lock is a big step toward ending iPhone thefts worldwide. They say the feature is available on the newest iPhone and can also be downloaded on older models.
One feature of the iPhone 5S is a fingerprint recognition system that will make it hard for those who steal phones to resell them. But that feature isn't available on older phones, even though they can use the new operating system. Lawmakers have been pressuring leading smartphone makers to create anti-theft features, including a kill switch to render smartphones inoperable if stolen.
