The Amerks' first preseason game is Wednesday night. A few local guys will be trying to gain a spot on the roster including Ryan Grimshaw.
Ryan Grimshaw graduated from Harvard last May with a degree in economics. The 23-year-old lives at his parents' home in Greece and he does not have a permanent job. But the Ivy Leaguer has a plan to make the Amerks' roster.
Grimshaw is at Rochester's training camp and will have the next week and a half to impress Chadd Cassidy and earn a spot as a defenseman, a position that is already deep for the Amerks.
This isn't Grimshaw's first go-round with Rochester. A few weeks after graduating in 2012, he played for the Amerks in the playoffs. Then last year, he played 16 games with the Toronto Marlies. The Greece native played for the Greece Thunder in high school and now has a chance to play in Rochester once again.
