It's a move to keep students and faculty safe on campus. On Wednesday, the University of Rochester's first class of peace officers graduated.
The group will help monitor the campus by serving as public safety officers. The officers will carry pepper gel, batons and handcuffs and will be able to make arrests for some criminal offenses.
The school has been trying since 2010 to get the peace officers on campus. Lawmakers finally approved the plan late last year.
