WNBC in New York is reporting that a mall and several schools are on lockdown right now after reports of a shooting in the area near a mall in East Garden City, which is 30 miles east of New York City.
Police tell WNBC that the suspect entered a building near the Roosevelt Field Mall and BJ's Wholesale Club in East Garden City, shortly after 10 a.m. and opened fire. He fled, possibly in a white Honda, after shooting the two victims, killing one of them. The condition of the surviving victim wasn't immediately clear.
Roosevelt Field Mall was locked down as a precaution. Shoppers aren't being allowed into the building, a spokesperson said, and anyone already inside has been told to stay put as police look for the shooter.
Garden City Schools were also put on lockdown as a precaution, school officials said.
