RIT is expanding its presence into downtown Rochester and the plan got a big boost, thanks to some federal funding.
Senator Schumer announced $1.5 million dollars from federal officials to build the college's new downtown urban entrepreneurship center. That center will be located at the historic Rochester Savings Bank building on Franklin Street.
School leaders hope this new center will help to revitalize that area, bringing high tech start up companies to downtown and bringing new jobs with them. The total renovation is expected to cost about $4 million and construction will take about 15 months.
