It's a move that will change the future of health care for people in our area. Executives at Rochester General and Unity Hospitals voted and signed a deal to join a partnership.
The two hospitals will come together to form a new health care system and be run by a board of directors from both facilities.
This is directly related to the Health Care Reform Act. Officials say the change in the health care laws will change the way hospitals get paid and how much. Executives say it will also help lower the costs for patients.
Officials first announced the partnership back in April and say jobs will not be impacted. The merger still needs approval from a regulatory committee. That's expected to happen between the next six months to a year.
