Monroe County is now the second most fiscally stressed government in New York, according to an updated list from the New York State Comptroller's Office.
Back in June, Monroe County was at the top of his list. Now, the office says that Rockland County is the most fiscally stressed based on new data it has received. The list comes from the comptroller's fiscal monitoring system, which determines a government's fiscal health by looking at several factors. They include how much cash is on hand and operating expenses.
News10NBC wanted to know if county officials plan to address this in some way.
Robert Franklin, Monroe County Director of Finance, said, "In our opinion, the comptroller's monitoring system just shows us he wants us to raise taxes and he's completely ignoring the fact that mandates are what's really driving fiscal stress issues in the state."
In a statement, Monroe County Democratic Leader Carrie Andrews says this report should serve as a "serious wake up call" to the Brooks administration.
