The College at Brockport community came together Sunday night to remember Alexandra Kogut, the 18-year-old freshman who was killed in her dorm room last September.
Dozens of students and friends gathered on campus to remember the young woman from New Hartford, near Utica. They spoke about their memories of Kogut and about the problem of domestic violence.
The group then walked to the pool where they lit luminaries in honor of Kogut who was a member of Brockport's swim team.
"I think it's very important that we all come together, because throughout the year everyone's been so supportive with each other and that makes me and others happy that people are so supportive, even if they didn't know Alex,” said Samantha Turner, friend of Kogut.
Kogut was found beaten to death in her dorm room in the early hours of September 29th last year. Her boyfriend Clayton Whittemore has been charged in her death. His trial is expected to begin in November.
