Wilson Commencement Academy and Wilson Foundation Academy on Genesee Street were on lockout for a short time Tuesday afternoon while police were investigating a shooting incident nearby.
Police were called to Genesee Street near Flint Street around 12:45 p.m. by a school resource officer at Wilson Commencement Academy who heard shots fired in the area. When they arrived on scene, the suspects had fled the scene. Police say their preliminary investigation reveals that two men were shooting at each other, subsequently striking two unoccupied vehicles parked on Genesee Street and Flint Street. No one was injured.
While police were investigating, classes continued at both schools and students and staff were able to walk among the building. However, no one was allowed to enter or exit the building. Students were dismissed normally Tuesday afternoon.
