The man who pled guilty to driving the wrong way on I-590 and crashing head-on into another vehicle has been sentenced to three to nine years in state prison.
Mario Carlenius pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated DWI. Carlenius was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of 590 on November 30, 2012 when he crashed into a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Stanislav Dutchak, of Hilton. Dutchak, a student at MCC, suffered massive head and brain injuries. Police say Carlenius had a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit.
Carlenius was sentenced Tuesday to three to nine years in state prison. When he is released, he will have his license revoked for one year and will be required to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle.
