Unity Health System has received a grant to help prevent future strokes in patients who have already suffered a stroke.
The Greater Rochester Health Foundation awarded Unity a three-year grant worth up to $558,000. The money will be used for stroke education and treatment.
"I think if there's one thing in terms of where we fall down in stroke care, it's taking every opportunity to prevent additional strokes," said Dr. Chris Burke, Director of the Unity Stroke Center. "This clinic helps to fill a very large gap in the continuum of care of stroke."
Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States.
