State Police want to warn you about phony fundraising schemes claiming to be benefiting the New York State Police.
News10NBC is told a number of organizations with police-themed names have been asking for donations. They claim the money goes towards buying safety equipment, sending kids to summer camp or anti-DWI campaigns. Troopers say the agency gets its funding through the state budget and doesn't ask for public donations.
If you get a call from someone claiming to be raising money for state trooper organizations, you are asked to call police.
