Macy's is breaking a 155-year tradition come Thanksgiving. The retailer has remained closed on the holiday for more than a century but this year it will open at least some stores starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and stay open for 24-hours straight.
By doing so, Macy’s joins a growing list of retailers who are getting a jump on Black Friday sales, which kick off the profitable Christmas selling season.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which was started in 1924, is the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States.
It's unclear at this point exactly which stores may be open on the holiday.
